OUR VISION
A community where surplus food strengthens connections and everyone can access support without judgement.
We envision a community where no good food is wasted, no one is excluded, and community spaces bring people together across social, economic, and personal circumstances.
OUR MISSION
To rescue surplus food and distribute it locally in a way that is welcoming and inclusive. We also act as a local signpost to wider support services if needed.
We:
Prevent good food from going to waste, looking after the environment
Provide low-barrier access food for the whole community
Create a safe, stigma-free space where people from all walks of life attend together
Strengthen social connections and reduce isolation
Act as a local signposting point, referring individuals to council and specialist services for housing, safeguarding, mental health, physical health, and overall wellbeing support if needed
Through our pop-up stall model, we support sustainability goals while responding compassionately to the realities of modern food insecurity.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
Food for Thought Heathfield is not a traditional food bank.
We do not require referrals, vouchers, or proof of need
Our stall is used by people from all layers of society no matter what their need, reducing stigma
We bridge social networks, bringing together individuals who might not otherwise meet
We serve as a trusted local touchpoint, helping the council and partners reach people who may be disengaged or harder to reach
Our work sits at the intersection of food justice, community wellbeing, and sustainability.
WELCOME TO VISIT
Food for Thought Heathfield distributes food to our community that would otherwise have been discarded from local supermarkets, restaurants and independent food outlets .
Everyone is welcome at our pop‑up stall. Anyone who needs food can access it. By using surplus food, our visitors also help to reduce waste and protect the planet. We invite them to nourish themselves and families, support others and strengthen our community.
We do not charge for food - ultimately what we offer would have gone to waste!
